The first production of Alban Berg's masterpiece “Lulu” as part of the Salzburg Festival took place in 2010 to great critical acclaim and was resumed in 2011. The present film production was also created at this time. The original interpretation by the eminent Bulgarian stage director Vera Nemirova with the powerful implementation of Berg's world full of corruption, decadence and death convinced both traditionalists and experimentalists. The stage design, which consists of painted stage sets, was by German artist Daniel Richter and had an overwhelming effect.
